so i'm late bloomer...i went and got very very drunk for the first time during the work week. yes...i'm lame, i partly blame living at home for the first three years after college in NJ of all places where there aren't that many bars and i didn't have lots of co-workers to go out to these nonexistent bars. in any case...i'm was and still am a cheap date and i was sorta in my nesting-home period of my life at that point....i was happy to be back in Princeton...i went out a lot in NY during the weekends, but thats about it.
anyways....so last week, i went out with a bunch of interns and another co-worker to a bunch of Irish pubs in paris on wednesday night with every intention to just have a beer and go home and get plenty of beauty sleep. however, i was with a bunch of young 24 year olds and one of the pubs was advertising 10 shots for 20 euros....aaaaand we ended up having three rounds among 5 of us. needless to say, it went a weee bit more crazier than planned and i had a roooough day at work the next day. luckily i was conscious enough to drink 2 liters of water and swallowed a large advil before i hit the sheets....so glad that my boss was in india last week though not so glad that the boy was on the slopes when this happened. apparently, i left several bizarre voicemails for him that night....he was so sad that he missed out my drunken state...
do i sound like a 20 year old or what??

did i mention how happy i am that the strikes are over?
yes! no, and i dont mean any labor union strikes in france (which thankfully we do not have at the moment). but i mean the WGA strike...because that means that my other favorite show How I Met Your Mother starts airing again next week! and that this season of LOST will be extended for another 6 episodes.
i know...nothing earth-shattering..but nonetheless important to me in keeping my sanity during the work week :)
and seriously, if you've never seen How I Met Your Mother, i seriously recommend it!

rain rain go away.....
man...we've been having some naasty weather here lately....bitter cold, non-stop rain, so depressing! hmmm...it reminds me of New Jersey! so strange considering we had a mild mild winter so far....and it doesn't help that boy is enjoying the slopes down south...:)
so we have a 3 day weekend coming up, the monday after easter is always a bank holiday in france and we can't decide where to go to get away from this dreary parisian weather. and since we get free first-class train passes because of the boy's job, i'm thinking of going south....even for a day. there is this yummmy italian restaurant in Nice run by an Italian mother who makes the most mouth-watering gnocchi i've ever tasted. and it might be nice to get some sun and see some friends down there. that or go up north to even more dreary weather but cross the border to Amsterdam for some light fun..:) can't decide....looking forward to the mini break though!

another update!
so...this looks like one of those monthly blogs...totally not my intention, but i will get better! i will, really, i will!
my latest updates:
1) i found out that my stagiaire (intern) at the new job could be a far far faaaar distant cousin of the boy (how funny is that?)
2) i discovered the coolest and yummiest sushi restaurant in paris...its one of those conveyor belt sushi places, but instead of a chain, this place is super chic and if you sit at the bar with the conveyor belt, you see the chefs preparing the sushi themselves....and this place put yummy big chunks of fresh tuna and salmon in the maki.....hmmm! one of my new friends in paris introduced me to this place and i ended up taking the boy to the same restaurant for his birthday 4 days later....(and he LOVES sushi...i like sushi...but he can eat it everyday). and when i think about it, i've actually eaten a LOT of sushi lately....for fun, for birthdays, for work....thats a lot of fish! and here is another funny sushi story....there is apparently a great sushi restaurant in the new aquarium in paris (isn't that just somehow a bit cruel?)
3) because of work and my boss's emergency trip to India for work, i now know how to get a visa for India in less than a week...especially if you are in france and not french....i never knew how hard it was to get a visa for India! the man hours i spent last week in getting this freaking visa...i almost had to fly back to NY for a day to get it!
4) we celebrated both of the boy's parents' birthdays this month....in additon to a bunch of others and the boy....why is everyone born in February??
5) and did i mention how much i love my new co-workers?? we've gone out a bunch of times and i also just recently got in touch with a bunch of other expat wives/girlfriends who are in the same situation as me...hoping to see them this week!

where i've been..
1) working! not as many ridiculous hours as the job from hell...but still working a lot, but this time I actually like my job and my co-workers. one of my managers is from finland and he's hilarious with his accent and his anecdotes....
2) sleeping! i was totally pooped out last week....i think it had something to do with fighting and resisting a nasty cough and flu-like thing that has been going around like the plague here. i'm ok...and got lots of sleep this weekend.
3) meeting new people! i met a new girl from craigslist and had coffee with her a few times...still have a bunch of people to meet who replied to my posting on craigslist on meeting new friends....have a book club meeting tomorrow with my american wives club (though i didnt finish the book...i figure its ok because they have the author coming in to a reading), and the boy and i were super bold and brought over freshly-baked Ghirardelli brownies (made by me!) as a surprise to our next-door neighbors who just had a baby (4 weeks old!). not very french, but we've seen them several times in the elevator and never got a change to introduce ourselves since we moved in so we figured this was a good time. and they were pleasantly surprised! and our social calendar is kicking up.....too much going on....especially this week
4) i got a pedicure....yes, not exciting news, but it is one of my guilty pleasures....strangely enough, its not very a french thing to do...something about touching feet i think. but this was at my favorite spa in paris...a Valentine's Day present from the boy
5) my tummy problems have disappeared! it turns out it really was the diet coke and all fizzy drinks that was really causing the uproar. not gluten...though i should try to stick more to a gluten-free diet. its hard when you're working...as of now, i have not drank a fizzy drink for over 2 weeks...and i think i've kicked the habit....especially after i read a very scary article in the New York Times about diet cokes.
6) my parents came back from their first cruise.....not very exciting for all of you, but funny when i think about my own parents who do not seem like cruise people at all...and have never understood the point of a cruise but ended up LOVING it this time around....they think it has something to do with being officially over 60 (well my dad is over 60....my mom isn't yet...).

my second week of work
1) my dear friend carrie became a mommy for the first time and welcomed a beautiful, cheeky, baby girl into the world. congratulations!
2) the NY Giants overcame its underdog run and beat out the New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl...and consequently made my other dear friend alice ready to make peace with the world and die happy
3) and i finally, once and for all, cut out diet coke and other fizzy drinks from my diet and voila...belly and gastro problems have pretty much disappeared! like i really feel better! and plus, its saves money too....coke is expensive (well it is here in france)
yes..that last one wasn't as big as the first two, but still i managed to find one thing to make my tummy better...and thats a big deal
